Game of the Week
Oklahoma 45 … Kansas
31
In a game with 1,165 yards of total offense, Sam Bradford set an Oklahoma record
with 468 passing yards with three touchdown passes, and DeMarco Murray ran for
two short scores. Kansas WR Dezmon Briscoe caught 12 passes for 269 yards
scoring from 69 and 17 yards out, but it wasn’t nearly enough to keep up with
the Sooner offensive attack. Up just 31-24 late in the third quarter, OU scored
14 straight points to finally put the game out of reach. Oklahoma converted
7-of-16 third down chances while KU came up with just 2-of-12.
Big 12
Player of the Week
Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford completed 36-of-53 passes for
468 yards and three touchdowns, and in a losing cause, Kansas WR Dezmon Briscoe
caught 12 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns in the 45-31 Sooner win.

Roundup
Baylor
… Oklahoma State is really, really good,
so there can’t too much to get angry
about in the loss. However, as the game
showed, the Bears need to own the
running game. The offensive line
struggled to get a push against the OSU
defensive front and ended up only
holding on to the ball for 23:45. Robert
Griffin was fine, but he couldn’t get on
the loose and he couldn’t get the
running game going. However, he has
still started his passing career
flawlessly failing to throw a pick so
far.
Colorado … Much will be made of
Tyler Hansen burning his redshirt season
to try to jump-start the Colorado
offense, and while he helped do that in
the win over Kansas State, it’s not like
the offense suddenly exploded. Helped by
Hansen’s mobility, and the running of
Rodney Stewart, the Buffs controlled the
game on the ground, but there weren’t
any points in the second half as the
defense had to hold up. The win kept
bowl hopes alive, but not come road
dates against Missouri and Texas A&M.
The offense will have to find far more
pop to stay with those two.
Iowa State … Iowa State couldn’t
get the offense going for a second game
in a row. It’s not like Nebraska was
doing anything out of the ordinary, but
the Cyclones couldn’t keep the chains
moving, converting just 2-of-13 third
down chances, with Austin Arnaud failing
to get the passing game going. Now on a
five-game losing streak, the Cyclones
have to beat Texas A&M at home next week
or it’ll take a monumental upset to win
another game.
Kansas … Oklahoma might just be
the second best team in America right
now. Kansas did what it could, but there
were too many mistakes, with Todd
Reesing throwing two key interceptions,
to go along with seven penalties. Jake
Sharp added a little bit of pop to the
running game, but the game quickly got
into a shootout and it became all about
the passing game. Even in the loss, KU
needs to be confident; it stood
toe-to-toe with a mighty OU offense and
didn’t succumb until late.
Kansas State … Kansas State needs
to be able to win the close games, but
it couldn’t get the offense working
against Colorado. Josh Freeman wasn’t
able to find a groove, even though he
was able to make plays on the move,
while Logan Dold didn’t provide enough
help for the running game. The Wildcat
defense got run over, around and
through, but it shut out the Buffs in
the second half. Oklahoma’s offense
won’t be as easy to slow down next week.
Missouri … How does Missouri
recover from the last two weeks? After
the painful loss to Oklahoma State and
the blasting from Texas, the Tigers have
to try to pick their chins off the floor
in a hurry; the prize is still out
there. Colorado, at Baylor, Kansas
State, at Iowa State, and Kansas are all
winnable, and the Tigers can still win
the North and go on to face (most
likely) Texas again. First, the
offensive line has to solve the problems
of the last two weeks and give Daniel
more time to work. There’s time to work
the kinks out, but the team has to keep
winning.
Nebraska … Nebraska broke its
three-game losing streak with its best
performance of the year. Joe Ganz was
razor-sharp against Iowa State,
especially in the first half, and Marlon
Lucky and the running game showed up.
The Cyclone offense didn’t go anywhere,
and outside of a long touchdown run, the
Huskers didn’t give up a thing. Now
there’s a chance to get even more
momentum with Baylor up next before
dealing with Oklahoma and Kansas. If the
passing game works like it did in Ames,
the Huskers will have a puncher’s chance
in Norman.
Oklahoma … The offense isn’t
going to be stopped the rest of the way.
Sam Bradford has taken his game to
another level, and while it hurts to
lose Manuel Johnson, who suffered an arm
injury, anyone thrown out there will
catch passes. On the flip side, the
defense continues to struggle way too
much. Kansas was able to move the ball
too easily through the air, but the
Sooners did a good job on third downs
and the pass rush was fantastic. Now OU
needs Texas to lose … twice.
Oklahoma State … It wasn’t a
perfect performance for Oklahoma State
over Baylor, but considering this was
supposed to be a letdown game, 34-6 is
nothing to be upset about. The defense
played yet another good game while the
offense was balanced and nearly
flawless. Dez Bryant, after being held
under wraps a bit by Missouri
but came back roaring. Flying under the
radar thanks to the great start by the
other phases was the punting game. Matt
Fodge only had to punt twice, but he hit
two bombs and put them both inside the
20.
Texas … Talk about humming on all
cylinders, Texas was perfect against
Missouri. Forget about any sort of
letdown after the Oklahoma game, Colt
McCoy only missed on three of 32 passes,
the offense converted 10-of-12 third
down chances, and the defense held
Mizzou to just 30 rushing yards. There
were eight penalties, but that’s
nitpicking. The Longhorns did everything
they could’ve dreamed of. And now it’s
on to the next challenge: Oklahoma
State. If they play as well they have
over the last two weeks, no one’s
touching this team.
Texas A&M … Again, even in a
loss, this was a positive step forward
with Jarrod Johnson stepping into be a
bomber when he had to. He showed off a
little more of his mobility against
Texas Tech, but the offense sputtered
and stalled in the second half and the
defense couldn’t get off the field. The
coaching staff still doesn’t believe in
the running game with just 23 attempts,
the same numbers as Tech. Mike Goodson
has to be a bigger part of the attack
(but that could be said any week).
Texas Tech… Texas Tech did what
good teams are supposed to do. After
struggling early on against Texas A&M,
the defense tightened up, adjusted, and
controlled the second half while the
offense kept on rolling. Tech held on to
the ball for more than 22 minutes in the
second half and finished with 10-of-12
on third down conversions. Graham
Harrell spread the ball around well, and
while he didn’t hit on much of anything
deep, he kept taking what the Aggies
gave him. He did a great job of keeping
plays alive with his feet and his
vision. However, for all the positives,
the Red Raiders committed 10 penalties
and committed three turnovers.
