Biggest Surprise – Baylor
The Big 12 South was supposed to be nasty, but Baylor wasn't supposed to contribute to the fun. This isn't good old Baylor, the sure-thing win on everyone's schedule. Thanks to new head coach Art Briles and freshman QB Robert Griffin, one of the Big 12's newest superstars, the Bears have become worthy of focus.

Biggest Disappointment – Texas A&M
The Aggies have improved over the last few weeks with QB Jerrod Johnson figuring out what he's doing, but starting out the season with a loss at home to Arkansas State isn't a plus, while getting blasted by Miami showed just how far the team needed to go. The defense has been non-existent thanks to a lack of a pass rush, while the run defense hasn't been a prize, either.

The Big 12 Champion will be ... Texas over Missouri
The Tigers are the class of the North, while Texas will stay one step ahead of the Sooners to play for the title for the first time since 2005. Missouri will rebound from a tough two weeks against Oklahoma State and Texas and come though in a stunningly mediocre North. The Tigers are too good to not be better than they've been against the big boys.

Best Game of the First Half

Texas 45 … Oklahoma 35
In a wildly fun game with each offense throwing haymaker after haymaker, Texas overcame an early 14-3 deficit thanks to a 96-yard kickoff return for a score and a 25-7 second half run to close out the game. Cody Johnson ran for three short scores and Shipley caught a two-yard touchdown pass for the Longhorns, while Sam Bradford threw five touchdown passes including three to Manuel Johnson and a 52-yarder to Jermaine Gresham. The 80 combined points were the most ever in the 103 times the two teams have played.

Worst Game of the First Half

Oklahoma 57 ... Chattanooga 2
Oklahoma scored with ease on its first seven possessions before play was delayed by a severe thunderstorm. Sam Bradford threw two short touchdown passes, DeMarco Murray ran for two one-yard scores, Chris Brown scored from 10 and nine yards out, and the Sooners did whatever they wanted to before packing it in. The only Chattanooga points came on a bad punt snap that went out of the end zone for a safety.

Coach of the Midseason – Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State
Gone is the wacko who yelled and ranted about Bobby Reid in a calculated gasket blow that defined the 2007 Oklahoma State season. Gundy has been cool, calm, and rock solid with his game plans as his Cowboys showed against Missouri that they deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the other top Big 12 teams.

Player who'll step up in the second half – Mike Goodson, RB Texas A&M
It's Jerrod Johnson's offense now, but Goodson will start to be a bigger part of the Aggie attack. He has to be. He started out the season with 24 carries for 124 yards and two touchdowns against Arkansas State, but he's been underutilized ever since. Injuries have been an issue, the offensive game plan has also been a problem. He's too good to not get the ball in a variety of ways.

Best performance so far -
Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant caught nine passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns. He also returned three punts for 75 yards and a touchdown in the 56-37 win over Houston.

Top Freshman – Robert Griffin, QB Baylor
The superstar hurdler has proven he can carry an offense, too. Not only is he a special runner, but he can be deadly accurate when given a little bit of time to throw. He set the NCAA record for the most passes thrown to start a career without an interception.

Coach who needs to have a big second half – Colorado's Dan Hawkins
Buff fans are still waiting for some of that Boise State magic to kick in. Gary Barnett might have had issues, major issues, but he got his teams to the Big 12 title game. CU isn't even close under Hawkins.

Player who needs to have a big second half – Cody Hawkins, QB Colorado
He's supposed to be the future of the program, and the team's problems aren't all his fault, but the Buff attack is the worst in the Big 12 and something needs to change in a hurry. He's being platooned now with true freshman Tyler Hansen with one of them needing to make things go.

Best remaining conference game – Oklahoma State at Texas, October 25th
This is just the start of a terrific slew of South showdowns. Outside of Oklahoma vs. Texas, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Texas and OU all are about wage a round-robin war of must-see Big 12 TV each week.
