The most prominent coaching job that is open is a topic of great concern surrounding Tennessee. Daily reports upon any coach with ties to the program, or ones who have showed up on the national scene have been approached by media.

On Wednesday the first words by Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton since his announcement on November 3rd that the Volunteer program would not retain Phillip Fulmer as coach, were officially heard.

Hamilton minced no words when he noted that it is all about wins and losses for the next head coach. "The main thing is how this next coach is going to be judged," said Hamilton.

"He's going to be judged by wins and losses, added Hamilton. "So we've got to get a guy that's going to win in the end." One of college footballs all time elite programs is a hot seat without question – just ask Fulmer.

Hamilton said he expects to name a new coach by mid-December, saying "I think it's reasonable to expect that, but I don't want to put a date stamp on it."

The UT Men's AD noted that by placing a date on a time frame. "Surely as you put a date on it, then people assume you don't have your guy," said Hamilton. He said that just because more names haven't leaked out does mean the process isn't ongoing.

The search for a new coach is headed up by Neinas Sports, the same folks that paired Urban Meyer and Florida together. Hamilton noted, "We've done a pretty good job protecting the individuals identity involved in the (hiring) process.

So, when coaches around the nation say they have not spoken to UT, it is true they are talking or their agents are talking to the search committee CYT Neinas. "It's a key part of them (coaches) wanting to stay in the process - is the confidentiality," said Hamilton.

Coaching anonymity is a priority for coaches that have teams positioned for post season births. "We've been interviewing coaches for the last week or so," added Hamilton. "Based on the interest and conversations, I feel good about the process."

A key component is naming a coach in dead season for recruits and current players to know who, "their new leader will be," says Hamilton. The Vols have a top recruit class headed up that have seen a few decommits, but have retained the bulk that who are decidedly coming to Tennessee.

Recruits Marlon Walls and Tahj Boyd have made announcements they are coming to play by the river in Knoxville, knowing Hamilton will make a good hire. Current Vol Athlete, Gerald Jones has noted publicly the team is getting more in tune with the idea and feels the university will make a great call.

The programs world class facilities and the financial prowess are second to none in recruiting players nationally. Tennessee's recruiting budget has led the nation for many years and has shown no signs of letting up. In two to four weeks time, the Vols hope to have their man in his seat that overlooks the Tennessee River.
