One of the state of Georgia’s premier prep football programs has forbidden Steve Spurrier and South Carolina from recruiting future prospective student athletes.

Spurrier has withdrawn the Gamecocks scholarship offer to Jonathan Davis of Tucker High in northeast Georgia. Davis who is rated by Scout Recruiting as the 9th best player at his position, was shocked by the late news.

Spurrier had one of his assistants inform the Davis family on Friday that his services “no longer hold a commit-able offer.”

His football coach at Tucker responded very quickly to Spurrier and the Gamecocks with no shortage of words for the program in Columbia - quite personally.

Franklin Stephens, spoke with Spurrier late on Sunday and with assistant coach Shane Beamer on Friday about the Gamecocks collective coaching decision. It got heated to say the least acknowledged Stephens.

So heated that Spurrier and South Carolina; have now been permanently banned from recruiting athletes at Tucker High School. Spurrier acknowledged it was his fault, but declined to do anything to remedy the situation noted Stephens.

Stephens said that the bottom line is; that Spurrier will not be allowed to contact future Tucker Athletes. Beamer had told Stephens, “South Carolina has to do what was in South Carolina’s best interests when it came to recruiting.”

Davis’ grades, nor his ability to qualify are in question says Stephens. Per NCAA rules, South Carolina does not have to offer up a reason. It is thought that the Gamecocks have over signed players for the linebacking positions.

The news hit Knoxville fast, and just as fast as it did, it found new Tennessee D-Coordinator Monte Kiffin tearing up the interstate to Tucker. Davis who was still upset, was surprised to see Kiffin at his home.

“He was very impressive and I enjoyed the visit," said Davis who is now shopping for a new college to play for. The Vols have a long standing relationship with Tucker High and Coach Stephens.

Stephens said, “It was unfair for Davis who had already informed Georgia Tech, Penn State, Miami (FL) and UAB he would not take their offers.” The four star recruit will have less than a month to find a school at this point noted Stephens.

Davis had a relationship established with Ron Cooper at Carolina, who has moved to LSU to work with former Volunteer D-Coordinator John Chavis who is heading up the Tigers defense.
