CFN 2008 Big 12 Player of the Year

Colt McCoy, QB Texas
Sam Bradford might have won the Heisman, but McCoy did more to carry his team, beat the Sooners, and led the march to get by Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. Even with the lack of a consistent rushing threat, McCoy found ways to keep the chains moving with his legs as well as his arm, rushing for 561 yards and 11 touchdowns to co along with 34 touchdown passes. Tremendously accurate, he had an all-timer of a season that was worth of the Heisman.

Defensive Player of the Year - Brian Orakpo, DE Texas
Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy could easily be named the Defensive Player of the Year, too. Orakpo wasn't quite the same after getting hurt in the Texas Tech loss, but he managed to come up with 11.5 sacks on the year, beat Oklahoma for two tackles, and was a nice helper against the run. Always in the backfield, he finished with 17.5 tackles for loss.
