CFN WAC
Player
of the Year
Colin Kaepernick, QB Nevada
There was supposed to be a quarterback
controversy coming into the season, but
Kaepernick took the job by the horns and
dominated the WAC season. The sophomore
ran for 1,130 yards and 17 touchdowns,
highlighted by a 240-yard, three
touchdown day against UNLV, and he threw
for 2,849 yards and 22 scores with seven
interceptions. Tall, quick, and with a
live arm, he'll no longer be among the
nation's best kept secrets going into
next year.
Defensive
Player of the Year - Jarron Gilbert,
DT San Jose State
The
former defensive end became a big, quick
tackle, and he ended up leading the
nation with 22 tackles for loss to go
along with 9.5 sacks. He more than
camped out in opposing backfields, he
was also consistent and tough against
the run using his frame and athleticism
to clog things up on the inside.
