The News Stories You Need To Know ... March 9

* Urban Meyer doesn't seem like the most jovial coach in
America. So it's not surprising that he had this to say about those
Lane Kiffin cheating accusations: “It’s not humorous. I can think of
a few other words that I’m not going to say, but certainly not
humorous.” What he probably does find humorous, though, is that
Florida has beaten Tennessee by a combined score of 89-26 the last
two years and that was when UT had a national championship-winning
head coach instead of an SEC neophyte. Yes, to Meyer that's probably
the apex of hilarity.
* The Louisiana Superdome is the venerable home of the Saints,
the Sugar Bowl and occasionally a BCS championship home game for
LSU. The building will undergo a major face-lift to repair damage
suffered during major disasters including Hurricane Katrina and Ohio
State.
* Arizona State head coach Dennis Erickson had this to say about
our newfangled means of modern communication: "I don't pay any
attention to those chat boards. They're so ridiculous. Some of my
assistants look at them, and the stuff people write... I tell them,
'Why would you guys ever read those things? Those people don't
count.'" Contrast that attitude with Meyer, who text messages
recruits all day long, and Pete Carroll, who's always really pumped
about sending out Twitter updates whenever he can take time out from
just generally being really pumped about everything else.
* Carroll's tailback Joe McKnight will skip the team's spring
practice to recover from dislocating toes on his left foot. Not to
be confused with the ball dislocating from his grasp, a frequent
occurrence during his Troy tenure.
