2009 Off-Season Roundup
The News Stories You Need To Know ... March 10

* The Florida Gators aren't just trying to defend their national
championship. They're also trying to reaffirm our belief in
humanity. In a recent speech Urban Meyer said his core values for
the program are: 1. Honesty. 2. Always show women respect. 3. No
drugs. 4. No stealing. 5 No weapons. No wonder Gainesville doesn't
get its due respect as an elite college party town.
* Meanwhile Meyer's quarterback Tim Tebow (you may have heard of
him) has revealed the true reason he's spurning the NFL for another
year of college. And no, it has nothing to do with him playing
outside linebacker instead of QB: "The reason that I did come back
wasn't to win another championship — which we're trying to do. It
wasn't to try to go higher in the [ NFL] draft or anything like
that. It was to have an impact on today's youth — something that
most athletes don't ever take the time to think about." Take that to
heart kids: in a time of unprecedented economic hardship, Tebow is
passing up a chance to set his family up for life financially to
help teach you a lesson... you ungrateful little brats.
* In other SEC news (because it's a year-round sport there while
most of the country is taking a breather), the University of Alabama
has appeared before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions. The alleged
violations involve textbooks and other materials for athletes. I
know, I know, Auburn fans, I lost you at "Alabama" and
"textbooks"...
