* Rich Rodriguez is hosting his annual Michigan football coaches
clinic, and a massive crowd of over 600 is expected. UM director of
football operations Brad Labadie attributed the high turnout to
Rodriguez's spread offense innovation: "The major thing is Rich's
offense is very intriguing to many high school coaches who want to
come and learn from Rich and his staff. You see more guys in high
school running spread-type offenses." Yeah, and if Rich Rod doesn't
win this year, pretty soon he'll be one of them.
* Lane Kiffin says new recruit Bryce Brown is the best high
school tailback he's seen since Reggie Bush: "This guy is so
exciting. I'm not saying he's Reggie, but there's a lot of
comparisons." Vols fans' heads are already dancing with visions of
spectacular plays, Heisman trophies and potentially vacated national
titles.
* Reggie's old coach and Lane's old boss, Pete Carroll, seems to
have changed his tune a bit about Mark Sanchez. At the USC Pro Day,
he reportedly made a point of praising his former QB, just weeks
after one of the most awkward press conferences ever. According to
one scout, "(Carroll) told us, 'I challenged him. I wanted him to
make the right decision.' He said, 'I love the kid. I support him. I
think he'll make a good pro.'" Apparently Carroll has been taking
motivational tips from his L.A. colleague, Phil Jackson.
