* Indiana University football coach Bill Lynch announced today that Kellen Lewis has been dismissed from the team for violating team rules.

“We are disappointed to have to make this decision,” said Lynch.  “When you have expectations of those on your team that are not met, you need to do what is ultimately in the overall best interest of your program.”

* Former Boise State running back Ian Johnson, the hero of Boise State's legendary Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma, signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings. He's now teammates with Adrian Peterson, who was on the wrong end of that classic. How time flies... hard to believe that was three Oklahoma BCS bowl chokes ago...

* Shots are still flying between Mike Leach and the Texas A&M program, after Leach said of former Aggies QB Stephen McGee, "The Dallas Cowboys like him more than his coaches at A&M did." Aggies coach Mike Sherman and McGee fired back at Leach, and what began as Leach defending his players' NFL worthiness has become an old-fashioned war of words between the two Lone Star schools. In a relatf1ed story, neither of them have won the Big 12 in a long time.

* University of South Florida tight end Trent Pupello was arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a firearm, after allegedly pistol-whipping three people in Tampa... thereby removing any doubt that USF is now a big-time program. Florida, Miami, USC, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Florida State would like to welcome you to the club, Bulls.

* Seven Auburn assistants are hitting the recruiting trail together in a limo for what they're calling the "Tiger Prowl." We can't think of a single reason why this wouldn't make a tremendous reality show.
