* Mark Sanchez now has 50 million reasons to disagree with Pete Carroll's assessment of his NFL readiness.

* Heralded quarterback prospect Nick Montana has spurned offers from Notre Dame, LSU, Ohio State and Alabama to play for... Steve Sarkisian and Washington. Maybe he had 50 million reasons to want to play for Sanchez's former QB coach.

* The guy Montana will be following, Jake Locker has been selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 10th round of baseball's amateur draft. But he made one thing clear: "I'm staying put to play football at Washington." Wow, Sarkisian must be a tremendous recruiter: he's not only beating Charlie Weis, Jim Tressel and Nick Saban, now he's also beating Mike Scioscia.

* Tom Osborne has agreed to serve as the Nebraska athletic director indefinitely. Cornhusker fans hope 'indefinitely' means as long as it takes for either Bo Pelini to turn the program around or for Osborne to take the final leap and return to the sidelines.

* Alabama Attorney General Troy King has closed an investigation into former Bama star Andre Smith's alleged dealings with a sports agent. The case was closed under the legal technicality "who really cares?"
