Tennessee's Gerald Jones underwent surgery on his left wrist Wednesday, according to the Vols head athletic trainer Jason McVeigh.

McVeigh says he expects Jones to make a full recovery in time for the start of August preseason camp. Dr. Robert Ivy of the Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic handled the wrist procedure.

Jones split time at quarterback, at wide receiver and the return game in 2008 as a sophomore. He was slowed by a high ankle injury for most of the '08 season, which saw him nearly recovered for the team's last game against Kentucky.

The Oklahoma City native scampered off left side for 55 yards untouched in the Vols 28-10 win over the Wildcats. He is expected to be one of the three starting receivers this September, although head coach Lane Kiffin is pushing roster positions into the final days of preseason camp.

Jones has rushed for 184 yards, good for 3 touchdowns from behind center in the G-Gun package on 31 attempts his first two seasons. In the pass receiving department finds he has accumulated 434 yards and has tallied 5 end zone scores.

He pulled additional duty returning the ball in the kicking game for the Volunteers. Last season he returned 15 punts for 150 yards, featured a long of 68 yards against Auburn.

Jones returned 3 kickoffs in '08 for 115 yards that saw him posting 76 return yards against UCLA. His final kick return came against Kentucky when he added 39 more yards to his two game season total.
