North Texas head football coach Todd Dodge confirmed to the Dallas News that his strength and conditioning coach Aaron Ausmus, will be on the job in Knoxville this Monday.

The former Volunteer track and field athlete will replace Mark Smith, hired from South Carolina in January. News reports surfaced during the week of the SEC meetings that Smith and head coach Lane Kiffin had clashed.

Smith was placed on strict review by the athletic department, but remained on staff in Knoxville.

Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton has confirmed to media that the Volunteer athletic department had bought out the two year contract for Smith, who was on track to earn $400K at Tennessee.

Smith will earn the amount over the contract time period of two years, unless he finds work that would alleviate further compensation.

Ausmus was a two-time All-American in the shot put at Tennessee. He had worked previously for Ed Orgeron; while head football coach at Ole Miss. Asumus has also worked with Kiffin, while at Southern Cal.
