Starter Out, NFL Passes An Infraction, 09 Recruit Awaiting Clearinghouse.

The University of Georgia football program took a hit at their strongest position when a projected starting offensive guard was injured during off season conditioning workouts.

Tanner Strickland will miss the 2009 season due to a right shoulder injury. UGA Director of Sports Medicine Ron Courson said that "a full recovery is expected."

The sophomore appeared in thirteen games during 2008 for the Bulldogs, playing on the O-Line and special teams. He was redshirted in ‘07. The university did not give a date and time for his upcoming surgery.

Free Tix To Stafford An Infraction

Free NFL game passes awarded to former Georgia signal caller Matthew Stafford by former Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler; was one of four NCAA secondary violations for the Bulldog football program.

Cutler had illegally sent Stafford tickets to see his former team, the Denver Broncos play the Atlanta Falcons last November.

A tip from the NFL to the SEC offices found Commissioner Mike Slive contacted the university as soon as the news from the NFL was delivered. A Georgia player stated that Stafford sent a text message to Cutler asking for the game passes.

Four players had been given free passes to the game. Georgia AD Damon Evans attempted a submission for a rule change that would allow players to be awarded tickets to NFL games from "friends and former teammates," to the conference.

The request by Evans was shot down by member institutions at the Spring Meetings held in late May at Destin, FL.

Recruit Not Cleared

One of the top faces the Bulldogs are hoping to see in a uniform this fall is awaiting news from the NCAA Clearinghouse on eligibility. Kwame Geathers, recruited to play on the D-Line has not been cleared to play.

D-Line Coach Rodney Garner is hopeful that everything will work out favorably for the four star rated recruit by Scout, Inc.
