GAME OF THE WEEK

Kansas State 24 … Iowa State 23 (in Kansas City)
Iowa State's Austen Arnaud hit Grant Gregory for a 23-yard touchdown pass with 32 seconds to play to seemingly force overtime, but Emmanuel Lamur blocked the extra point to give KSU the thrilling win. The Wildcats got two Grant Gregory touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, highlighted by a 54-yard scoring pass to Brandon Banks, but Arnaud did what he needed to do to get the Cyclones back in the game. He threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Derrick Catlett in the second quarter and ran for a three-yard score in the third.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kansas State's Emmanuel Lamur made seven tackles and blocked the extra point to give KSU the win in the win over Iowa State.

CONFENCE ROUNDUP

Baylor
… at Baylor 31 ... Kent State 15 ... Baylor was able to come up with a relatively easy win considering the offensive backfield had undergone a makeover. With Robert Griffin out, backup Blake Szymanski needed to get in some reps before the Oklahoma game, but he wasn't able to go with a shoulder injury and RB Jay Finley remained on the sidelines hurt. Nick Florence did a great job under center, but the offense needs a veteran in Szymanski to have any hope against the Sooners. The secondary will have to be far tighter next week to keep the game close, while the penalties have to stop after committing 11 for 91 yards.

Colorado
… at West Virginia 35 ... Colorado 24 ... West Virginia gave Colorado several chances to take over the game, but the Buffs didn't take advantage. The defense couldn't slow down Noel Devine and the Mountaineer running game, but the bigger problem was CU's own ineffectiveness on offense. Cody Hawkins threw 52 times, but the passing game only gained 292 yards with three rough interceptions. To have any chance at Texas next week, the offense has to be perfect while the defense can't give up the big plays it allowed in Morgantown.

Iowa State
… Kansas State 24 .... Iowa State 23 ... The Cyclones didn't get a good day out of Austen Arnaud and the passing game, but he ran well to make up for loss of RB Alexander Robinson to a pulled groin muscle. Arnaud tried to win the game on his own, and while he came close, the special teams couldn't come through and now all bowl hopes might be gone. It's going to take a more balanced offensive effort, and a whole bunch of firepower, to keep up with Kansas next week, but there's a chance to stay with a Robert Griffin-less Baylor in Ames the week after. Getting Robinson back, though, is a must.

Kansas
… Didn't Play This Week

Kansas State
… Kansas State 24 ... Iowa State 23 ... Can Kansas State start to think about a bowl game? It would be a tall order, but with home games against Texas A&M and Colorado still to play, it's possible to come close. Up next is a trip to Texas Tech, and with the way the pass defense is playing, allowing just 153 yards per game, the team has a shot to pull off the shocker. QB Grant Gregory is starting to come into his own with a nice, efficient day throwing the ball and with 29 yards and a score on the ground.

Missouri … Didn't Play This Week

Nebraska … Didn't Play This Week

Oklahoma
… at Miami 21 ... Oklahoma 20 ... The defensive line got to Jacory Harris and was rock-solid sound early, and it did a decent job against the run, for the most part, but when push came to shove late, OU got shoved. Landry Jones was more than fine under center, but he wasn't asked to do a whole bunch as the running game and the defense were supposed to carry the Sooners, and they did, but there wasn't a chance to pull out the game late. If OU's D is supposed to be among the best in America, it should've given Jones and the attack one final shot in the final four minutes. The talk will be about Sam Bradford probably coming back for the Baylor game to tune up for Texas, but the bigger issue is the secondary that missed too many assignments and couldn't get off the field late.

Oklahoma State
… Didn't Play This Week

Texas
… Didn't Play This Week

Texas A&M
… Arkansas 47  ... Texas A&M 19  ... The nation's leading offense put up big yards, cranking out 458, but offense failed to click when Arkansas was going on its big run. The defense didn't help the cause by failing to get to Ryan Mallett after a great start. To have any chance against a rested Oklahoma State, all the parts need to be working and the defensive front's efforts into the backfield have to lead to stops. The D has to get off the field, while the O needs to go on long drives to take control of the game.

Texas Tech
… at Texas Tech 48 ... New Mexico 28 ... After Taylor Potts took some big hits and was knocked out of the game, and while Steven Sheffield was fine, he wasn't Potts. In a rocky week for the program with the Twitter debate and with star OG Brandon Carter suspended, the team played relatively well. However, New Mexico is playing as poorly as anyone in America and it still cranked out 431 yards. Kansas State should be a relative layup next week, but the pieces have to be in place before going to Nebraska. Potts has to be back and effective, and the D could really use more pass rushing.
