Texas Tech took a first half lead on a 12-yard Alexander Torres touchdown catch from Steven Sheffield, but didn’t get back into the end zone until Edward Britton caught a 24-yard pass with under seven minutes to go. GAME OF THE WEEK

at Oklahoma State 24 … Texas Tech 17

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Missouri WR Danario Alexander caught ten passes for 200 yards and three scores in the win over Kansas State.

CONFENCE ROUNDUP

Baylor
… Texas 47 ... at Baylor 14 ... Whatever … Texas might be the best team in America. Nick Florence and the offense kept on pressing, but with a struggling run defense and no pass rush, Baylor wasn’t going to have a shot to make this interesting. It’s going to take wins over Texas A&M and Texas Tech to get bowl eligible, and the only way that will happen is by bombing away, and Florence can do that. The defense doesn’t have a chance in the final few games, so get ready for the shootouts.

Colorado
… at Iowa State 17 ... Colorado 10 ... Colorado continues to be its own worst enemy. With three turnovers and 11 penalties, there were several mistakes and several missed opportunities. Tyler Hansen couldn’t keep the chains moving, even though he threw for 259 yards and made a few big plays. Assured of a losing season and with a trip to Oklahoma State next week and Nebraska to close, things could get a lot uglier if the team doesn’t sharpen up. CU outgained Iowa State 390 yards to 310, but it wasn’t nearly enough. The offense will have to be far better to have any chance of not being blown out over the final two weeks.

Iowa State
… at Iowa State 17 ... Colorado 10 ... While the Cyclones could use a win over Missouri next week to guarantee a bowl spot, just getting eligible is a tremendous accomplishment for Paul Rhoads in his first season. It might not have been pretty against the Buffs, but Iowa State didn’t make as many mistakes, took advantage of Buff errors, and got the sixth win needed. Alexander Robinson is a workhorse who makes things easier on everyone else, while the defense came up with stops time and again before a late touchdown to make things interesting. To beat Mizzou, the Cyclones will have to win the turnover battle and need to get more out of the passing game.

Kansas
… Nebraska 31 ... at Kansas 17 ... The disaster won’t stop. The team is supposed to be jelling by now with more big plays and Todd Reesing in perfect sync with his targets. Instead, there were too many misfires, the running game continues to be non-existent, it’s going to take a win over Texas or Missouri just to get bowl eligible after losing five straight. The defense hasn’t been bad over the last few weeks, but shockingly, the offense is sputtering too much. Now it’s time to let it rip. There’s nothing to lose against Texas, so it’s time for Reesing to start bombing and bombing and bombing.

Kansas State
… Missouri 38 ... at Kansas State 12 ... Kansas State moved the ball well, but three turnovers were a problem and drive after drive stalled with four field goals and no touchdowns. Now it’s one game for all the marbles. While the loss to the Tigers hurt the bowl dreams, there’s no margin for error now, it didn’t matter as far as the improbable Big 12 title hopes. If Kansas State beats Nebraska in Lincoln next week, it’ll get two more games going to the Big 12 Championship and to a bowl game. Lose, and the season is over. How badly does the team want that 17-15 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette back?

Missouri … Missouri 38 ... at Kansas State 12 ... After a game like this, it’s hard to tell if the team has underachieved all season long or is simply young and in a rebuilding phase. After losing four of their last five games, the Tigers blew up on Kansas State with Danario Alexander coming up with a tremendous two game stretch as one of the nation’s hottest players coming up with ten catches for 200 yards and three scores after making 13 catches for 214 yards and a score against Baylor. The loss to the Bears stings a big more now, but with the win over KSU, Mizzou can take a deep breath and go into the Iowa State and Kansas games trying to solidify its bowl position.

Nebraska … Nebraska 31 ... at Kansas 17 ... Nebraska might have had some rocky moments a few weeks ago, and the offense continues to stink with Roy Helu isn’t carrying the attack, but now it’s one game away from playing for the Big 12 North title. The Huskers are in the championship game if they can beat Kansas State next week, and they can make a statement that they’re the dominant team in the North, as if that’s something special, but beating the Wildcats and closing out with a win over Colorado. The defense continues to be special, and it gave Kansas problems at times, but to beat KSU, Helu has to keep running well and QB Zac Lee, who got the start after being benched last week, has to do a better job in the red zone.

Oklahoma
… at Oklahoma 65 ... Texas A&M 10 ... The Sooners committed 11 penalties and Landry Jones threw a pick. Other than that, this was the bounceback performance the program desperately needed after the brutal 10-3 loss to Nebraska. This season, but OU’s high standards, is lost, there isn’t going to be a Big 12 title, but Jones provided more evidence that it’s not going to be all that long before the program is back on top. He showed a glimpse of what he could do, and while he might be erratic over the final few games, he’s maturing by showing he could come back after a disastrous game against the Huskers. A trip to Texas Tech is up next in what’s sure to be a shootout. Jones has to come up with another game like this.

Oklahoma State
… at Oklahoma State 24 ... Texas Tech 17 ... Oklahoma State is still in the hunt for an at-large BCS game, but it might have to do it without QB Zac Robinson, who appeared to suffer a concussion after taking a big shot at the end of the game. Instead of trying to run out the clock, the OSU offense kept the offense working on the ground and it almost cost the team the game. Even so, the ground game was fantastic, running for 243 yards, and controlled the clock for 37:20. If the Cowboys can beat Colorado in five days and can pull off a win at Oklahoma, they might be Fiesta Bowl bound.

Texas
… Texas 47 ... at Baylor 14 ... No playing around, no drama, and no problems. Texas did exactly what a national title contender should do with a team like Baylor. The running game rumbled without a problem, averaging 6.4 yards per carry and gaining 224 yards, while the run defense stuffed the Bears allowing just six yards. The team is hardly going through the motions; it’s making a statement. With Kansas coming up next before the showdown against Texas A&M, another performance like this one would be nice. Colt McCoy and others got to take most of the second half off, and with just five days between games, getting rid of KU early is a must.

Texas A&M
… at Oklahoma 65 ... Texas A&M 10 ... 12 penalties, four turnovers, 226 yards of total offense. How could this performance have been worse? It could’ve been 65-3, but for A&M, this was a disastrous performance coming off an ugly loss to Colorado. If nothing else, the Aggie offense is supposed to be able to bomb away with a Jerrod Johnson running the high-powered attack, but OU’s defense never let this get interesting. The Aggies need to beat Baylor next week or a bowl dream might go bye-bye with the season finale against Texas.

Texas Tech
… at Oklahoma State 24 ... Texas Tech 17 ... The Red Raiders used both Taylor Potts and Steven Sheffield, and while they combined to throw three picks, it wasn’t an awful game by the passing game. The defense did a decent job against the OSU passing game, but got run over for 243 yards and couldn’t get off the field allowing too many third down conversions. The 12 penalties didn’t help the cause. Tech is going bowling, but it needs a win over Oklahoma and Baylor to get higher in the pecking order.
