The Class Is Heavy On ... Hope for next
year. This wasn't a huge class and Frank Solich
wasn't able to do much to capitalize on the big East
winning campaign. There are some decent linebackers
and Chase Cochran is a receiver who'll end up being
the No. 1 target, but there isn't a lot to be
excited about with few spots to fill after last
year. Watch out for Kenny Ashley, a JUCO transfer
who could be the teams' No. 1 RB from Day One.

The Class Is Heavy On ... Quarterback. It
wasn't exactly the old Howard Schnellenberger wall
around Miami to get the top talent from the area. A
class that lacked star power also lacked any one
area of beefing up, but there were two decent
quarterback prospects to build on for the next few
years with 6-3, 210-pound Nick Bracewell and
strong-armed Stephen Curtis to battle it out to be
the future of the program. Bracewell is the better
of the two.

The Class Is Heavy On ... Quarterbacks.
There are so many players brought in last season
that there wasn't a ton of room for too many new
players, but new head coach Willie Taggart wanted to
upgrade the offense as soon as possible and he was
able to sign JUCO bomber Matthias Pelesasa and
all-around playmaker Brandon Doughty to give the
team more options. WR Joel German could be a No. 1
target right away.

Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Defensive backs.
North Texas hasn't played defense in several years,
and while the team is still growing and still needs
big seasons out of previous classes, head coach Todd
Dodge is looking for a big impact from the JUCO
ranks with safeties Jamison Hughes and Ryan Dowling
and corners Steven Ford, D'Leon McCord and DeAndre
Wood to all see time immediately.

The Class Is Heavy On ... Defensive
Tackles. Ron English and his staff didn't exactly
restock the shelves after a horrendous season, but
there was an influx of immediate help for the
defensive line with three JUCO transfers to throw
into the interior. Jeremey Cutler is a 6-1,
275-pound fireplug, and he's the lightweight of the
trio. 310-pound Jasper Grimes and 290-pound Jabar
Westerman aren't considered star prospects, but they
should help gum up the works.

The Class Is Heavy On ... The defensive
front seven. After working on doing something for
the passing game with last year's class, this year
was all about the defense and especially the line
with six decent prospects to try to generate even
more of a pass rush. LB Steve Mehrer and safety
Calvin Tiggle will play huge roles over the next few
years. Offensively, quarterback got attention with
the pickup of Gabe Henderson and Cedric McCloud.

The Class Is Heavy On ... Defensive backs.
The one area that didn't need an instant impact was
the offensive backfield, yet two of the key players
were QB Casey Weston and RB Jasmin Hopkins to
upgrade the talent level. However, Jerry Kill loaded
up mostly on defensive backs bringing in Demetrius
Stone from the JUCO ranks and DeChane Durante to be
a part of the safety rotation. Akeem Daniels isn't a
big corner, but he can fly.

The Class Is Heavy On ... More bodies.
Shane Montgomery came up with a huge class last year
based more on bulk prospects than sure-thing stars.
The same goes for this year with a slew of players
brought in to create more depth and to do more
developing. OT Jeff Tanner will be an All-MAC
performer before his time is done and he should combine with Tyler Grubbs to form a nice pair of bookends.

The Class Is Heavy On ... The defensive
front seven. New head man Dan Enos had roughly ten
minutes to work, and it showed with a mediocre class
that will need some developing. The one positive
area was up front on defense with Kevin Henry a
near-certain all star end with the potential to bulk
up into a tackle. Caleb Southworth is a nice speed
rushing prospect, while linebackers Tyler Lombardo,
Andy Phillips, and Nores Fradi will be a big deal in
three years.

Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Linemen. The
biggest instant impact should be in the secondary
with JUCO transfers Montavious Hill and Dan Jackson
brought in to be in the starting mix right away, but
the Warhawks loaded up on the lines. Six defensive
ends, two centers, two guards, and four offensive
tackles make it a strength-in-numbers class, but OT
Jon Fisher is a good one who should be the star of
the bunch.

The Class Is Heavy On ... JUCO transfers.
DeWayne Walker struggled with his first recruiting
class, and his second one isn't all that great.
However, considering the team made decent strides
after starting from near-scratch, it was a must to
get more players who can help the team right away.
And here come the JUCO transfers with seven coming
in highlighted by OT Aundre McGaskey, who might be
an anchor from snap one. DT David Mahoney should be
a big factor right away, while QB Matt Christian
will get every chance to start.

The Class Is Heavy On ... The passing game.
Turner Gill had loaded up with so many big classes
that the program didn't just go light last year, but
it didn't need a whole bunch this year, either. New
head coach Jeff Quinn was looking for guys he could
develop, and Rudy Johnson might be the quarterback
of the future if he doesn't move to another spot. RB
James Potts might be an instant impact performer,
while there are some nice receiver prospects to get
excited about.

Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Skill players.
The offense was Joe Webb, Joe Webb, and Joe Webb
last year, and now there's an immediate infusion of
talent to try to change that with seven wide
receivers, four of them from the JUCO ranks, led by
big Darnell Williams; the team's instant No. 1
target. Five running backs, including two JUCO
transfers, were brought in, while the star should be
Greg Franklin.

The Class Is Heavy On ... The passing game.
Gary Andersen spent his first season loading up on
players getting JUCO transfer after JUCO transfer,
but this recruiting season is about building for the
future. Diondre Borel is the starting quarterback
this year without question, so Alex Hart, Trevor
Brown, and Jeremy Higgins will get time to develop.
However, a few of the new receivers will be asked to
produce early on. JUCO transfers Xavier Martin and
Dontel Watkins will give Borel targets, but Shaan
Johnson will end up being the start of the passing
attack.

Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Defensive
linemen. While the offense got a lot of help,
especially at running back with the instant help
from JUCO transfer Dwayne Frampton and his sub-4.4
speed, but the defense will get the most immediate
upgrade with two fantastic linebacker prospects in
Quashaun Lee and JUCO transfer Michael Lombardo and
four strong defensive linemen. JUCO transfers Blake
Chavis and Brandon Joiner each likely to start or at
least be major factors in the end rotation.
