The Class Is Heavy On ... OOffensive
linemen. The Eagles needed quarterbacks after
several issues last year, and they got two strong
ones in Chase Retting out of California and Josh
Bordner from Maryland. Andre Williams should
eventually be a key running back, and Shakim
Phillips is a No. 1 wide receiver who'll be used in
a big role next year. But the strength is on the
offensive line with Seth Betancourt one of the ACC's
top tackle recruits and Andy Gallik and Harris
Williams two good-looking guards. Defensively,
Steele Divitto should be the team's next great
linebacker.

Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Linemen. Lots and
lots of linemen. The Wildcats got their receivers
last year and are solid at the skill positions, but
they still got a star target in JUCO transfer Dexter
Ransom. The lines needed to be fortified, and this is the class
for that with five linemen brought in for the
offensive side and five for the defense. Kirifi
Taula is the defensive tackle the line will
eventually build around, but JUCO transfers Willie
Mobley and Mohammed Usman will be needed now for
depth. There weren't many stars for the offensive
line, but tackles Trent Spurgeon and Matthew Jakubiec have
tremendous upside.

NC State |
Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Offensive
lineman. This might not be the sexiest class, but it
has teeth. WR Tony Creecy is a speedster who should
make a big impact, and JUCO transfer Tobais Palmer
will be a part of the running back mix right away.
The key is the offensive line with Robert Crisp a
massive and very talented offensive tackle who'll
end up being the anchor up front. Crisp is 6-8, as
is fellow tackle Andy Jomantas, while Tyson Chandler
is a 6-6, 340-pound mauler. Defensively, Fre'Shad
Hunter will be the star on the inside up front once
he adds some weight.

Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... The passing game.
New head man Charlie Strong brought in three
quarterbacks led by Dominique Brown, and they'll
have plenty of targets to work with. Six
wideouts signed on and they all fit a type with
decent size and tremendous speed. Michaelee Harris
out of Miami is the best of the group, but Stephan
Robinson could grow into a dangerous playmaker. The
defense has its star to build around in end B.J.
Butler, a speed rusher who could've gone to Alabama
or Florida.

Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Defensive line.
Tommy Tuberville's first class made the most noise
keeping QB Scotty Young, but he loaded up the
defense with eight linemen including 288-pound JUCO
transfer Donald Langley at one tackle spot and
fellow JUCOers Lawrence Rumph and Scott Smith on the
ends. Overshadowed but still important were key
offensive tackles Aleon Calhoun and Beau Carpenter,
two big bodies who fit the system. Tuberville also
beefed up the secondary with eight recruits
including safety Russell Polk and corner Tre'Vante
Porter.

Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Running back. Dan
Mullen got the receivers for his offense last year,
and this year he worked on the ground game with 6-8,
330-pound Damien Robinson one of the nation's top
offensive tackle recruits to go along with four
running backs to try to replace Anthony Davis.
Matthew Wells is the best of the lot, but JUCO
transfer Vick Ballard might make the most immediate
impact with a physical style and good quickness.
Nick Griffin and Jay Hughes could've been toting the
rock at several other big name schools. Defensively,
6-7, 370-pound James Carmon and 6-4, 330-pound
Jeffrey Howie are massive JUCO transfers brought in
to clog things up right away, while Kaleb Eulls, an
end, is one of the best players in the class.

Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Skill players. It
was a bit of a strange class considering Gary Pinkel
and his staff signed a slew of skill players last
year, but this year's haul might be even more
talented. Quarterbacks James Franklin and Tyler
Gabbert will have years to work and develop behind
Tyler's brother, Blaine Gabbert. WR Marcus Lucas
won't fill the hole left by Danario Alexander, but
he's another big, fast target with NFL upside. Up
front, Nick Demien is a great offensive tackle
prospect who should be the anchor by 2013. End Kony
Ealy leads the defensive side as the team's top end
prospect.

The Class Is Heavy On ... The running game.
Last year Rich Brooks made sure the future of the
passing game was set by bringing in three quarterbacks, five wide receivers and two tight ends.
The future became the present with so many issues at
quarterback last season. this year, new head man
Joker Phillips made sure the running game was secure
with four very good prospects led by Brandon Gainer
out of Miami and Raymond Sanders out of Georgia. In
an interesting move, Phillips also loaded up on
tight ends bringing in four with Alex Smith a big
blocker and Tyler Brause like a big receiver. Don't
dismiss the big signing of Joe Mansour, one of the
nation's top punting prospects.

Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Defensive backs.
Paul Johnson loaded up on linemen last year, he has
a few solid quarterbacks in place to run his attack,
and several other decent pieces are in place
offensively. This year he wanted help for the
secondary and he got it with seven defensive backs
including Louis Young, a fine corner out of
Maryland, and Ryan Ayers, a speedster with lockdown
ability. Safety Isaiah Johnson has the build and the
potential to be a difference maker, an All-ACC
difference maker, while Fred Holton, speedy Synjyn
Days, and Jake Skole beefed up the safety depth.

Iowa
|
Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Defensive
linemen. After a mediocre class last year, Iowa came
up with a strong haul of talent this recruiting
season starting with several great prospects for the
defensive line. Carl Davis is one of the bigger
tackles the defense has had in a while, checking in
at 300 pounds, while ends Mike Hardy and Louis
Trinca-Pasat have good size. On the offensive side,
tackle Andrew Donnal is the key to the class with
NFL size and the frame to get a lot bigger. The
openings will be there among the skill players to
step up and shine next ear, and tight end C.J.
Fiedorowicz could be too good to keep off the field.

West
Virginia |
Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Receivers. West
Virginia? Wide Receivers? Bill Stewart came up with
several excellent, dangerous targets led by Ivan
McCartney out of Florida. The 6-1, 175-pound
playmaker spurned Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee to
come to Morgantown, but Deon Long might end up
playing earlier on. The Mountaineers also came up
with several good defensive back prospects starting
with safety Latwan Anderson, a flash of lightning
who hits like a ton of bricks and chose WVU over
Ohio State.

Arizona State |
Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Receivers.
Instant help was desperately needed for an offensive
line that hasn't kept a quarterback upright since
Dennis Erickson took over, and players are on the
way in JUCO transfers Aderious Simmons and Brice
Schwab at tackle and Calvin Tonga at guard. Four
running backs were signed, led by Deantre Lewis, but
the offensive stars were at receiver with JUCO
transfers George Bell and Mike Willie looking to see
time right away, while Kevin Anderson and Randy
Kurst are speedsters for the near future.

Pittsburgh
|
Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Defensive
linemen. T.J. Clemmings is a superior end prospect
with 6-6, 260-pound size and the potential to be
thrown into the mix right away, but he's hardly the
only good defensive lineman signed with tackle Aaron
Donald and end Bryan Murphy keeping the shelves
stocked. Across the board there isn't a lot of
sure-thing star power, but this is a diverse class
with several strong prospect; because of the sheer
numbers a few of these players will be better than
originally expected. The secondary could be just as
loaded as the line.
32.
Virginia Tech
|
Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... The lines. The
stars are in the secondary with Nick Dew, Brian
Laiti, and Theron Norman very big and very good
safety prospects, and Kyle Fuller and Detrick Bonner
are going to be good corners in a few years. The
quarterback situation will be interesting with
Ricardo Young and Mark Leal each athletic enough to
fit the Virginia Tech mold, while WR E.J. Smiling is
big and fast. However, the class is all about the
lines with Laurence Gibson a ready-made offensive
guard with good athleticism and big-time upside.
Zack McCray should be the next great Hokie pass
rusher, while Derrick Hopkins and De'Antre Rhodes
are pluggers for the defensive interior.
31.
Arkansas |
Scout List
The Class Is Heavy On ... Talent. Last
season Bobby Petrino's class was heavy on live
bodies to create more competition and to build
better depth, especially on the defensive line. This
year's class was about upgrading the overall talent
level with the main focus on receiver. Marquel Wade
and Julian Horton should thrive in Petrino's system,
while QB Jacoby Walker will get a few years to groom
to be ready to be in the mix by 2012. Calvin Barnett
is the 305-pound defensive tackle prospect to work
the line around, Brad Hefley will end up being the
leader of the linebacking corps, and Eric Bennett is
a nice looking corner.
