Alabama's Nick Saban has set down backup quarterback Star Jackson for academic shortcomings.

While most schools inside the SEC are in the first to middle stages of their spring football regimen, LSU has completed their season down in the bayou.

Les "The Mad Hatter" Miles noted days before the Tigers kicked off their workouts; his top agenda item was restoring the team's identity to rush the football.

If the Purple and Gold game on Saturday was an indicator, Miles has succeeded with a triumphal celebration. The Tigers ground out 370 rushing yards on 57 attempts before 22K livid fans.

"We put a premium on running the football, I felt like we improved there," said Miles. I like the way we run the football. I think we are physical. Before spring began Miles circled the programs fall off running the football, as the one item needed to get them back to the national title picture chase.

Freshman Michael Ford led all runners with 139 yards behind 19 carries. The Mad Hatter has given everyone another reason to fear his attack in 2010 by installing a new Wild Tiger formation.

Miles is no stranger to pulling out a trick play. None will soon forget his two point conversion method that set a gold standard for place kickers. On Saturday, Miles used Russell Shepard as a wide receiver, quarterback and running back.

The versatile Shepard gained 66 yards on eight carries out of the backfield. The day was accentuated with heightened awareness of the kicking game from the brothers Alleman. Jasper booted a 57 yard clipper against the wind that cleared the crossbar by seven to ten feet.

LSU opens 2010 in the Chick-fil-A' Football Kick-Off against North Carolina that will air on ABC at 8:00 PM EST.

Kentucky Opens Spring

The Joker Phillips tenure in Lexington kicks off this Tuesday with a luncheon at the Wildcat Den in Commonwealth Stadium. Phillips has scheduled all fifteen of the ‘Cats spring workout days for the morning period.

Kentucky will end each practice day before 11:20 AM. All morning practices are to be held at the Nutter Training Facility unless inclement weather visits. Kentucky will conclude their spring season on April 24th with the Blue and White Game at 1:00 PM inside Commonwealth Stadium.

Alabama Sits Star

Nick Saban has set down backup quarterback Star Jackson for academic shortcomings this week. Jackson is competing for the backup signal role; has not been taking care of his requirements notes Saban. Jackson is permitted to take part in meetings for board work, but not practice.

Vols QB Race Separation

Senior Nick Stephens and junior Matt Simms have taken all of their spring snaps with the number ones during the first two weeks of practice notes new Vol head coach Derek Dooley.

"Matt's showing a lot of progress and he's got good competitive spirit. I think he's got good command. Tyler Bray is showing some good progress, he's been getting all his reps with the two's," said the coach.

The Vols have not been this thick at quarterback since the Casey Clausen era hit full swing in 2001. Joining the three noted competitors are JUCO signee Nick Lamaison, also from California and incoming Georgia freshman Nash Nance.
