South Carolina tight end Weslye Saunders immediate future with the Gamecocks is a bit cloudy at the present time. Coach Steve Spurrier announced on Monday that the off season news making tight end has been suspended from team activities.

“I guess you could say Weslye has been suspended for a violation of team rules and his situation will be determined a little later,” said Spurrier.

Despite continued baiting by some members of the news media requesting if any connections to the ongoing NCAA investigation that linked Saunders to UNC players that took a questionable trip to Miami or another investigation of players living at a trendy hotel off campus tensed the ball coach.

Spurrier twice repeated the phrase before saying, “Y’all don’t listen to me. Weslye has been suspended for a violation of team rules. His status will be determined at a later date. Now how else can I say that? OK? That’s all I’ve got to say about it, alright.”

The North Carolina native was productive enough last season to draw the attention of NFL scouts. In 12 games he recorded 32 receptions totaling 323 yards and three touchdowns.

He has been linked to a multi-player investigation by the NCAA that involves several SEC players. It found Alabama’s Nick Saban calling sports agent “pimps” when it was discovered one of his players crossed the lines at SEC Media Days last month.

Last week the university informed several players who were living at the Wynfrey Hotel to pay their bills and find other living arrangements. The players receive a stipend from the university that can be used for rent off campus.

Saunders is one of five SEC players named the John T. Mackey Award for the nation’s top vote getting tight end.

"His status will be determined at a later date," stated Spurrier. "Now how else can I say that?"
