Arkansas State

Under the modified spring game scoring system (a staple at campuses everywhere), the Arkansas State defense emerged victorious in the team’s annual spring game 52-36.  With five three and outs against the defense and a 74 yard interception return for a touchdown by Darius Glover, the defense cruised to a relatively easy victory.  The offense was led by quarterback Travis Hewitt, who completed 16 of 30 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns.

Florida Atlantic

The Florida Atlantic defense caused four turnovers against the team’s offense to eke out a one point, 38-37 win in the annual spring game.  Eric McIntosh accounted for two of the aforementioned turnovers, an interception and a 21-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.  Offensively, quarterback Rusty Smith had a strong day, completing 18 of 29 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns.  But, he also threw two back-breaking interceptions in the process.  Running back Charles Pierre ran for 54 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries.

Florida International 

Staying consistent with the Sun Belt’s spring game theme, the FIU defense beat the FIU offense 29-18 in the Blue and Gold spring game.  The offense jumped out to a quick 14-3 lead, but the defense shut out the offense over the next nine possessions to come away with the eleven point win.  Jeremiah Weatherspoon sat out 2007, but made up for lost time picking up two interceptions.  The defensive team effort made head coach Mario Cristobal take notice after the offense had gotten the best of the defense throughout the spring.

Middle Tennessee 

Quarterback Joe Craddock got all kinds of busy on the Blue team, as he led the White to a 28-7 win in the team’s annual Blue-White spring game.  All Craddock did was complete 19 of 25 passes for the 235 yards and three touchdowns, rushing for one as well.  Oh, and he played baseball this spring as well.  Wow.  He hit receiver Caleb Dugger for a 34 yard touchdown to kick off the scoring, but his big target was Patrick Honeycutt, who had eleven receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

North Texas 

Surprise, surprise – the North Texas Green and White scrimmage featured a lot of passing.  Quarterback Giovanni Vizza led the way for the Mean Green offense, completing 15 of 23 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown.  His offense scored five touchdowns against the defense, all of them coming on passes.  It wasn’t all offense, though, as the defense held the offense out of the endzone throughout the first 13 minutes of the scrimmage.  But, Vizza and company got it going later in the scrimmage.

Troy   

The 60-52 Cardinal victory over the White was a bit of a footnote in the annual T-Day spring game.  Don’t think so?  Just ask head coach Larry Blakeney who didn’t care for the “worst scoring system in the history of college football”.  Either way, both units got good work done during the scrimmage.  Quarterback Jamie Hampton completed 21 of 31 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns.  Defensively, the star of the scrimmage was Xavier Lamb who finished the day with 21 tackles (nine solos).

UL Monroe 

The annual Maroon and Gold spring game was a nailbiter, coming down to the final 25 seconds, as quarterback Kinsmon Lancaster hit Darrell McNeal for the game winning 26-yard touchdown pass.  Lancaster’s throw put the Maroon on top for good 14-10 over the White.  Most of the action took place in the final quarter of the contest, as the two teams combined for 21 points, after scoring three points in the first three quarters.  Lancaster completed 15 of 26 for 192 yards for two touchdowns to lead the Maroon to the four-point win.
